Nicknamed ‘Stride’ by musical giant, and one of the founding fathers of this technically and physically demanding jazz piano style, Count Basie, she was encouraged by Sarah Vaughan to record her first ensemble album with members of the Basie band. A native of California, Judy Carmichael moved to New York in the early 80’s and has maintained a busy concert schedule throughout the world ever since. She frequently tours throughout Europe, South America, Australia and Asia as well as all over the US.
She has performed in many prestigious venues from Carnegie Hall, to the Peggy Guggenheim Museum in Venice, and in programs alongside celebrated artists such as Joel Grey, Michael Feinstein, Steve Ross and the Smothers Brothers. The author of two books on stride piano, and numerous articles on the subject of jazz, Judy hosts and produces her own Public Radio Show Judy Carmichael’s Jazz Inspired, broadcast on over 170 stations throughout North America and abroad and on NPR’s Sirius Satellite channel. Judy Carmichael is a Steinway Artist. Harry Allen – Widely regarded by audiences and musician alike as one of the great masters of swing tenor saxophone, Harry Allen has carved out an exceptionally successful career, with award winning recordings, international performances with such stars as Rosemary Clooney, Tony Bennett, James Taylor and Sheryl Crow. He is featured both on the score and with an on-screen cameo in the film The Out Of Towners.
